Today we welcome Ali McNamara and her fabulous book tour for her latest novel Step Back In Time to The Book Geek Wears Pajamas.
How many lifetimes would you travel to find a love that lasts for ever?
When single career girl Jo-Jo steps onto a zebra crossing and gets hit by a car, she awakes to find herself in 1963. The fashion, the music, her job, even her romantic life: everything is different. And then it happens three more times, and Jo-Jo finds herself living a completely new life in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The only people she can rely on are Harry and Ellie, two companions from 2013, and George, the owner of a second-hand record store.
If she's ever to return from her travels, Jo-Jo must work out why she's jumping through time like this. And if she does make it back, will her old life ever be the same again?
As you see from the blurb above Jo-Jo travels back in time and we go with her. We here at Book Geek headquarters stop off at the 80s for our turn on the tour.
I'm an 80s baby (1982) but when I think back to the 80s like everybody else we think of one thing Music!
What better way to pay homage to this wonderful book and wonderful era than by making the ultimate love/heartbreak cheese playlist of the 80s!
I have to thank everyone who helped me with this playlist. People of twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and of course the PR department at Little Brown for their input. The stories I heard that accompanied some of these songs were absolutely hysterical, from first kisses in the school disco, sobbing uncontrollably under a duvet to a certain song after being dumped, to dedicating a song to your crush in the school talent show.
So here we have it your ultimate cheesy love/heartbreak 80s playlist... All songs are linked to the videos. Get clicking and enjoy.
14: Alone - Heart
Obviously I couldn't leave it at that, so many wonderful songs were left out or missed. So I took all your offerings and being biased my own plus and ended up with the best songs of the 80s by year.
1980: Fame - Irene Cara
1981: Mickey - Toni Basil
1984: 99 Red Balloons - Nina
You're going to hate me in a few dats when you still have these in your head. Can't beat a bit of cheesy 80s though can you? And those who say they don't love it are the ones who end up in reflex on a weekend in dress up gigs and feather boah swinging around the podium having the time of their lives.
Now back to why were here.
Ali McNamara's Step back in time.
I asked Ali a few questions about the 80s and this is what she said:
Can you remember your favourite, and your worst outfit?
I was a teenager in the 80s and I remember wearing ra-ra skirts, legwarmers and deely boppers, not always all together!
Everyone has that song that they either loved because it reminded them of someone or cried because it reminded them of someone, what is your 80s heartbreak song?
Crazy for you - Madonna
Is there a story behind this?
Yes, but I’m not sharing it on here! ;-)
You're such a tease McNamara :(
And your favourite 80s song?
Madonna again – Get into the Groove still have this song on my iPod now!
Who was your 80s crush?
There were a lot, I was a teenager! But I think the character ‘Face-man’ from the TV series The A-Team was my all time fav!
Favourite 80s film?
Back to the Future – Love it!
If you could go back in time to the 80s for one day only what day would it be and why?
Maths lessons - secondary school. I’d tell them I will never ever need to know about algebra, or many other of the useless mathematical equations they teach you at school!
Obviously,I could'nt allow the lovely Mrs McNamara to ecape without a few 80s pictures now could I? Keeping it fair for your amusement I suppose I better give you some of myself too.
So, we come to an end of our 80s tour stop and I can honestly say I've had nothing but fun, I hope you have too.
Thank you to Ali for writing a superb book and joining me today and to you all for helping me with muical memories and for stopping by.
