Mistletoe Bell hates Christmas. So would you if you had a name like hers. Her Christmas-mad parents make the festive season last all year, and with another Christmas looming, Mis doesn’t think she can take any more. After her carelessness causes an accident at school, it seems like things can’t get any worse.

Then she wakes up to find The Ghost of Christmases Ruined in her bedroom.

She is taken to the North Pole, to a reform school run by elves determined to make her love Christmas. Stuck in a misfit group of fellow Christmas-haters with a motley crew of the weird and even weirder, watched over by elves day and night, she doesn’t expect to meet cute and funny Luke, who is hiding a vulnerable side beneath his sarcastic exterior. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with him.

But all is not as it should be at the North Pole. A certain Mr Claus is making the elves’ lives a misery, and pretty soon Mistletoe and Luke are doing more than just learning to like Christmas.

Three weeks before Christmas, sixteen year old Christmas hating Mistletoe Bell dreams of a purple moose who calls himself the ghost of Christmas' ruined. He charges her with ruining Christmas repeatedly over the years and summons her to the North Pole where she will be taught how to behave over the festive period in an acceptable manner and until she learns the true meaning and values of Christmas. Waking up the next morning Mistletoe or Misty as she likes to be called realises that that wasn't a dream but a nightmare. A real life nightmare why? Because she's stuck on the North Pole.

First of all I really do have to say how fabulously bizarre author Jaimie Admans mind is. This book is a baffling mixture of Christmas love, Christmas hate, Horrible Santas, Dead grand parents, Stalking killer ducks and zombies. It is marvellously twisted and a book that children aged 11+ would love.

North Pole Reform School has a lovely combination of characters who all have individual story's and issues. Ranging from the humans to the elves. It had an insightful look into to life of Santa and his elves in a behind the scenes look at how Christmas is prepared. It has unexpected twists and it is really nice to see people's take on what Christmas means to them.

A charming Christmas tale with a twist of romance, stalking ducks and zombies.
