About a Girl - Lindsey Kelk
Source: own copy
I’d lost my job. I’d lost the love of my life. My mum wasn’t talking to me. My best friend was epically pissed off. And my flatmate probably had a hit out on me by now. I never meant for things to get so out of hand…
Tess Brookes has always been a Girl with a Plan. But when her carefully constructed Plan goes belly up, she’s forced to reconsider.
After accidently answering her flatmate Vanessa’s phone, she decides that since being Tess isn’t going so well, why shouldn’t she try out being Vanessa? With nothing left to lose, she accepts Vanessa’s photography assignment to Hawaii – she used to be an amateur snapper, how hard can it be? Right?
But Tess is soon in big trouble – she isn’t a photographer, she isn’t Vanessa, and the gorgeous journalist on the shoot with her, who is making it very clear he’d like to get into her pants, is an egotistical monster.
Far from home and in someone else’s shoes, Tess must decide whether to fight on through, or ‘fess up and run…
So, I'm still mainly a Kelk virgin! I know, I know, I'm stupid. I did read Jenny Lopez has a Bad Week last year, and I vowed to read the iheart series and this straight away. I really just didn't have the time though. Anyway, I was asked to take part in Lindsey's What a Girl Wants tour and I thought it would be a great reason for me to settle down and do a double run together. I am so glad I did. I would have kicked myself black and blue for missing out on this amazingly crazy beauty! Oh I just absolutely loved it. Lindsey Kelk has an unbelievable talent that entices you with swear words, sex and scandal. She's an author for us 21st century girls that's for sure.
Anyway review time. (Trying to be all professional here even though I'm bouncing off the walls in excitement waiting to start What a Girl Wants)
Twenty-eight yea old corporate bore Tess Brookes has just been made redundant. Her life is her job. She has nothing without her job, well, except for her two best mates Amy and Charlie, but after them she had nothing without her job. So after a week spent moping about in bed, drinking cheap cava out of a snoopy mug with Amy and talking to her bath duck it looks like she's cracking up. When something unbelievably soul destroying pushes her to the edge in a rage she stupidly answers a call for her demonic Flatmate Vanessa. Why she does it she doesn't know, but Tess is flying to Hawaii on a photography assignment pretending to be Vanessa. How hard can it be right?
AMAZING, Amazing, amazing! I don't think I have read a book like this in a long time. Fast-paced, full of laughter and drama. It is more than wonderful, it is a tease from the word go. It has you hanging on to every word waiting for it to explode, even after it's bloody explodes it explodes again, then to make matters worse you're left with a cliff hanger. Aarrrgghh! You all know I hate cliff hangers, but this is one I'm willing to accept. There is so much I could say about this book, but I don't want too. I just want you to click the link and buy the book so you can see how amazing it is for yourself. I promise you from the bottom of my heart you will not be let down. It really is brilliant. I mean come on you start the book and straight away you are hit with a post-orgasmic smug Tess admiring an archived Valentino gown whilst in be known to her it's all about to crash down around her extra large tits. To be fair though it does have an underlying seriousness to it which I found endearing. Yes it's a witty, fun, book full of drama, sex and scandal, but it's also a book about friendship, love and honesty. And, more importantly to femmes who you are no matter what. To be happy and proud of yourself. I think it's a cracker of a read.
Round two? Yes please!
